Commercial Solar PV, why is it so popular?

  • Daytime occupancy & larger continuous base loads maximise grid savings
  • Larger roofs = Larger systems = Greater economies of scale
  • High levels of ROI possible
  • Guaranteed 20 yr income stream for system owner
  • Reduced electricity cost for tenants increases desirability
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Guarantees and warranties-peace of mind
  • Reclaimed VAT reduces installation cost & improves ROI
  • Expenditure can be off-set using Capital Allowance
  • Adds value to the building- FIT stays with it
Commercial Solar Power is the renewable technology whose time has come. A combination of soaring energy costs, efficiency gains made by solar panel manufacturers and the Government’s Feed-in-Tariff incentive scheme, mean that installing a commercial Solar PV system has never been better value for money, nor easier to acquire.

With flexible design solutions available for virtually all roof configurations, along with wall and ground mounted systems, 500,000 plus installations in the UK to date alone suggests that Solar PV cannot be ignored.

It has never been more affordable

Driven by increased competition and market demand, solar panel production volumes have increased worldwide and so unit costs have come down considerably. Simply put, this means that installing a solar energy system has never offered better value for money.

Commercial Solar has come of age

As a registered micro-generator of electricity, you will be paid for all the electricity you generate whether you use some, all, or none of it. You should aim to use as much of the electricity you generate as possible as you will therefore be importing less from the grid. As such you will see a good reduction in your annual electricity bill.

A small amount of the electricity you generate will actually flow back to the grid and you will be paid a small amount for this as well. Adding these three together gives you your annual benefit.

It’s so flexible. As commercial property tends to use a lot of electricity in the daytime you will be maximising your ROI. If high demand appliances and/or machinery are involved, bills will be even lower.

Earn an income

Under the FIT scheme, your income from micro-generation is index linked and guaranteed for 20 years.

A flexible solution

Commercial solar arrays can be installed on virtually any roof type; they can even be ground or wall-mounted if you have the space available. Panels facing due south are ideal however very profitable systems are possible for all roof types that face from east to west. Flat roofs are often particularly good sites as it is easier to optimise the panels so they capture the most solar irradiation.

Hassle free installation

It is an ideal retro-fit property improvement. Apart from the initial survey and the final hook-up to your mains supply, virtually all the work takes place outside. Most installations are carried out within 1-5 working days so disruption is minimal and for the occupants of the property, life carries on as normal.

The aesthetic choice

Panel design has evolved. We can now specify surface mounted “all black”, or go for in-roof panels which barely show at all. There are even solar tiles available with different options to suit virtually all types of roof tile. We will advise you on all the options available that suit your particular property.

The green option

Commercial solar will reduce your reliance on non-renewable energy sources like gas, coal and oil and will secure your future against rising energy prices. At the same time, you will have the satisfaction that you are doing your bit for the environment by cutting you emissions of harmful CO2 and thereby reducing your carbon footprint. This in itself can be leveraged in your favour as far as occupant/employee attitudes are concerned not to mention the PR opportunities.

Planning permission

Even in conservation areas most installations do not require planning permission, indeed most local authorities are only too keen to see the community get involved in energy efficiency. However, there are cases where property owners will need to seek planning approval for their project. In these cases, Treadlighter will be able to help you through the process by assisting with all documentation. If you think that your property might be subject to planning permission , we have the knowledge to help you through the process.

Adding value to your property

There is an installed base of 675,000+ solar PV systems in the UK and experts now agree that energy efficiency ranks very highly in determining property decisions. Who wouldn’t prefer to occupy an energy efficient property? Solar PV really is the property-improvement investment pays for itself over and over again.

Isn’t it time you put your roof to work?
